Cheap Cloud Storage for a Team of 8 (2026 Prices)
What cloud storage really costs at 5, 10, 20 and 50 seats, with prices checked on 21 September 2026, and the point where per seat billing loses to per terabyte.
Quick answer: For a team of 8, Sync.com Teams 1TB is the cheapest proper shared drive at $6 per user per month on the annual plan, or $576 a year for 8 TB, on prices read 21 September 2026. Backblaze B2 is the cheapest per terabyte at $6.95 per TB per month with no seat charge, but it is object storage, so keep a small per seat plan for the files people open daily.
If you run a team of about 8 people, the storage question is not which service is best. It is why a shared folder costs more every time you hire someone, when the data itself barely moves.
Here is what the main options actually cost at 5, 10, 20 and 50 seats, and the arithmetic that tells you when per seat billing has stopped being fair value.
Every price below was read from the provider’s own pricing page on 21 September 2026. Prices move, so check the date stamp before you rely on any of it.
The short answer
- Cheapest proper shared drive at 8 seats: Sync.com Teams 1TB, $6 per user per month on the annual plan. That is $576 a year for 8 people and 8 TB.
- Cheapest per terabyte, by a wide margin: Backblaze B2 at $6.95 per TB per month, with no per seat charge at all. Check Backblaze
- The one to check twice: Dropbox Standard, $15 per user per month, where team storage starts at 3 TB regardless of how many seats you pay for.
- The crossover rule: divide your annual bill by 83.40. That is how many terabytes you would need to be storing for the per seat plan to match raw storage.
What 8 seats costs, on the day
| Plan | Per user per month | 8 seats for a year | Storage you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sync.com Teams 1TB (annual) | $6 | $576 | 8 TB |
| Sync.com Teams 2TB (annual) | $9 | $864 | 16 TB |
| pCloud Business | $9.99 | $959.04 | 8 TB |
| pCloud Business Pro | $14.98 | $1,438.08 | 16 TB |
| Dropbox Standard (billed monthly) | $15 | $1,440 | 3 TB for the team |
| Dropbox Advanced (billed monthly) | $24 | $2,304 | 15 TB for the team |
| Backblaze B2 | no seat charge | $667.20 for 8 TB | exactly what you store |
| Backblaze Computer Backup | $99 per computer per year | $792 | unlimited per computer |

Two things to notice straight away. Dropbox Standard costs two and a half times what Sync costs and gives the team less capacity, because its 3 TB is a team pool, not a per person allowance. And Backblaze B2 holds the same 8 TB for $667.20 a year without charging you a penny for the eighth person, the ninth or the fiftieth.
Total cost at 5, 10, 20 and 50 seats
This is the table that actually decides things. All figures are one year at list annual prices, in US dollars.
| Seats | Sync Teams 1TB | pCloud Business | Dropbox Standard | Dropbox Advanced |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | $360 | $599.40 | $900 | $1,440 |
| 10 | $720 | $1,198.80 | $1,800 | $2,880 |
| 20 | $1,440 | $2,397.60 | $3,600 | $5,760 |
| 50 | $3,600 | $5,994.00 | $9,000 | $14,400 |
Now the same headcounts, but paying only for capacity:
| Data you actually store | Backblaze B2 for a year | What it costs at 5 seats | At 50 seats |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 TB | $83.40 | $83.40 | $83.40 |
| 2 TB | $166.80 | $166.80 | $166.80 |
| 5 TB | $417 | $417 | $417 |
| 10 TB | $834 | $834 | $834 |
The right hand columns are identical because that is the whole point. B2 does not know or care how many people you employ. A 50 person firm storing 2 TB pays $166.80 a year. The same firm on Sync Teams pays $3,600. That is not a rounding difference, it is 21 times the money for the same bytes.
The promo price is not the price
Sync.com currently advertises 50% off for 1 year on Teams plans. That makes Teams 1TB look like $3 per user per month, or $288 a year for 8 people. Year two is $576. Teams 2TB goes from $4.50 to $9. Teams 10TB goes from $7.50 to $15.
Budget from the list price, not the promo, and you will never be surprised in month 13. This is the same discipline we apply to hosting in what hosts charge after the intro deal, and it catches people out just as often in storage.
The other number that hides: billing cycle. Sync Teams 1TB is $6 per user per month on the annual plan and $8 if you pay monthly. For 8 people that is $192 a year for the privilege of paying in instalments.
Where per seat billing stops making sense
Here is the arithmetic, and it takes ten seconds.
One terabyte on Backblaze B2 costs $6.95 a month, which is $83.40 a year. So:
Annual bill ÷ 83.40 = the terabytes you would need to be storing for that per seat plan to be fair value.
Run it on the plans above for a team of 8:
| Plan at 8 seats | Annual bill | You would need to be storing |
|---|---|---|
| Sync Teams 1TB | $576 | 6.9 TB |
| pCloud Business | $959.04 | 11.5 TB |
| Dropbox Standard | $1,440 | 17.3 TB |
| Dropbox Advanced | $2,304 | 27.6 TB |
Most 8 person businesses we have looked at store somewhere between 200 GB and 2 TB. Contracts, invoices, photos, a few years of design files. If that is you, you are not buying storage. You are renting seats.
The threshold moves against you every time you hire. At 5 seats Sync Teams needs 4.3 TB to justify itself. At 50 seats it needs 43 TB. Your headcount grows in steps; your data usually does not.
What you give up by going per terabyte
Being honest about this matters more than the saving.
Backblaze B2 and Wasabi (from $7.99 per TB per month, no egress or API fees, checked here) are object storage. That means:
- No team sync client. Nobody gets a folder on their desktop that just works. You need a tool such as Cyberduck, rclone or a backup application on top.
- No shared folder permissions in the way a team expects, and no link sharing with an expiry date for a client.
- No live document editing. There is no Sheets, no Docs, no commenting.
- Egress can cost. B2 gives free egress up to three times your stored amount each month, then charges $0.01 per GB.
So the honest recommendation for a team of 8 is not “move everything to B2”. It is a split:
- A small per seat plan for the working files people touch daily. Sync Teams 1TB at $576 a year, or pCloud Business at $959.04 if you want pCloud’s encryption option. Check pCloud
- Per terabyte storage for the bulk. Old projects, raw video, archives, backups. B2 at $83.40 per TB per year. Check Backblaze
That split is also just good practice. Your working drive is not a backup, which is the point of the 3 2 1 backup rule and the reason automatic website backups live somewhere other than the server they came from.
The Google Workspace question
We could only read Google Workspace prices from the India storefront on the day, so these are in rupees and are labelled as such rather than converted.
| Google Workspace plan (India) | Per user per month | Storage | 8 seats for a year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base | ₹99 | 20 GB pooled per person | ₹9,504 |
| Starter | ₹270 | 30 GB pooled per person | ₹25,920 |
| Standard | ₹1,080 | 2 TB per user | ₹1,03,680 |
Source: Google Workspace pricing, read 21 September 2026. The jump from Starter to Standard is the one that hurts, and it is usually storage that forces it, not features. Eight people on Starter share a pool built from 30 GB each. That fills fast.
If your team lives in Docs and Sheets, Workspace is not really optional, and the comparison worth reading is pCloud vs Google Drive for business. If it does not, Workspace Standard is an expensive way to buy 16 TB.
What we left out, and why
- Microsoft 365 Business. Its comparison page timed out twice on the day. Rather than quote a number from memory, we left it out.
- Check Point and other enterprise suites. No published price.
- Internxt and Filen lifetime tiers. Their pages rendered placeholder values instead of prices when we fetched them.
If a price is not on this page, it is because we could not read it from the vendor on 21 September 2026. That is the rule here.
Our picks for a team of 8
- Cheapest shared drive that behaves like one: Sync.com Teams 1TB, $576 a year at list.
- Best if you want encryption you control: pCloud Business, $959.04 a year. Check pCloud
- Cheapest capacity, full stop: Backblaze B2, $83.40 per TB per year, no seat charge. Check Backblaze
- Simplest safety net: Backblaze Computer Backup at $99 per computer per year, which is $792 for 8 laptops and does not care how large they are.
For the wider ranking across features rather than price alone, read the best cloud storage for small teams. If you would rather stop paying annually altogether, the one time plans are covered in lifetime cloud storage prices and break even months and in the cheapest lifetime cloud storage worth buying. And before you put client files anywhere, run through how to secure customer data in a small business.
Bottom line
For 8 people, $576 a year buys a real shared drive with 8 TB behind it. Anything much above that and you are paying for the seats, not the storage.
Do the division. Annual bill divided by 83.40. If the answer is more terabytes than you own, move the bulk to per terabyte storage and keep the per seat plan small.
